Can you rise to the challenge? Flex your creative muscles and pull together a story, not knowing where it begins, but where it goes?

10 TEAMS. 10 SCENES. 1 UNIQUE SHORT FILM.

With ‘Spark’, we want to celebrate upcoming talent by uniting creative forces from all across London.

We’re harnessing the powers of ten different filmmakers to create an explosive short film. The twist being, the creation begins with the final scene and is shot backwards!

Coherence is key: the hardest part of the challenge is making sense of the story at hand. Each team only has access to the 2 scenes that follow theirs in the story and have to create what came before them.

  BEHIND THE SCENES

THE RULES

  • The scene can be no longer than 1 minute and 30 seconds. While we know that you don’t have full control over this, due to handing the rushes over to us, bear in mind that this is your timeframe when scripting and planning your scene.

  • The characters must be cast and costumed according to the brief provided.

  • You can involve supporting actors. However, remember that the scene following yours has already been shot and so if you introduce new characters that are not present in the following scene it has to make sense.

  • Scenes must be transition-able. Your scene must start in such a way that the next contestant can work from it.

  • Your team can be as big as you want it to, and any money you invest in your scene is on your own personal terms.

  • You must provide your rushes before your deadline so we can make sure the next team has everything ready for them. The overall edit will be done by us; however, if you wish to edit your own scene, please let us know in advance.

  • If not editing, please provide us with a paper edit as well as notes regarding any specific sound design.

  • Score will be handled by ourselves; however, feel free to discuss the mood of your scene for us to hand over to our composer.

  • No shooting on phones! You must film on a camera and provide a file that is:

    • Video: Apple ProRes 422 HQ (1920x1080) in 24fps and filmed in a log colour profile.

    • Sound: Stereo 24 bit 24kHz

  • You will have three days from your shoot wrap to return everything to us. If you miss your deadline, you are automatically disqualified. Don’t be late!
